Shandal E. Emanuel, MD, MPH
Dr. Shandal S. Emanuel joined our practice on July 11, 2005 with a specialty in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics.
Dr. Emanuel is a member of the Lumbee tribe. She was born in Lumberton, NC and reared in Durham, NC. She attended North Carolina University in Chapel Hill, NC where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1994. While at UNC, she was a member of the Carolina Indian Circle and she volunteered for an outpatient psychiatric facility.
Dr. Emanuel received a Master of Science in Public Health in Health Policy and Administration from University of North Carolina School of Public Health in 1996. While attending graduate school, she worked full time as a residential supervisor in a group home for mentally ill adults. She spent a summer working for the Diabetes Control Program in Raleigh, NC preparing a grant for Medicaid reimbursement for diabetes education in the local health departments. After graduation from the School of Public Health, Dr Emanuel spent a year in Boston, MA at Boston University.
Dr. Emanuel received a Doctor of Medicine degree from East Carolina University in 2001. While in medical school, she served as co-president for Association of Native American Medical Students. She volunteered as a speaker for the Native American Pediatric Education Project (NAPEP) in which she would present information on important pediatric topics in the surrounding Native American communities. Dr. Emanuel completed her residency in a combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics program at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA.
Dr. Emanuel enjoys cooking, traveling, horseback riding and loves becoming involved in community activities.
